A letter from the Director

Dear Friends,

On August 17th, 2008, my life turned upside down - I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Months to follow were consumed with doctor’s appointments, surgeries, treatments, and the most challenging emotional ups and downs.  I relied on my nanny more than ever before.  She prepared our meals, assisted with housework, kept my children smiling and maintained the sanity in our home.  My personal battle with breast cancer was the hardest time of my life.  However, what I learned during this time was that it is even more difficult for many other Canadian women.

In Canada, over 2,000 women under 40 years old are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and there is currently no form of childcare built into our healthcare system.  We are excited to be the first to offer this much needed service and I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing new program that will make this difficult time of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment a little bit easier for Canadian moms.

With generous funding from Rethink Breast Cancer, I have proudly established the Nanny Angel Network.  This unique program offers temporary relief childcare for mothers with breast cancer.

The very best nannies from across Canada, including those from Diamond Personnel in Toronto and Nannies-on-Call in Vancouver and Calgary, are volunteering their time to provide relief childcare for moms with breast cancer. Our Angels are selected for their skills, sensitivity and commitment.

The Network provides a public platform for our outstanding Nanny Angel volunteers to be recognized throughout our communities for the incredible contributions they make to all of us every day.

We have a tremendous opportunity, with the support of Rethink Breast Cancer, to provide our Angels with breast health awareness and screening education.  We hope to improve the frequency of early detection and treatment of this high risk group of young women.

Again, I am so proud to be representing this dynamic group of Nanny Angels and the wonderful board of directors who give of their time so unselfishly helping families through a very difficult time.

With Warmest Regards,
Audrey Guth
