Toronto, ON (May 4, 2022) – Today the Nanny Angel Network (NAN) is proud to announce that it is expanding its free cancer support services to families experiencing cancer across the Hamilton region. To support more families living with cancer, NAN will deliver its specialized in-home and virtual childcare program that gives parents with cancer respite and helps their children build emotional resiliency. Since 2009, NAN has supported over 1,400 families and provided over 25,000 nutritious, prepared meals to families throughout the Greater Toronto and Kingston area.

“When a parent is diagnosed with cancer their first thought is their children, and that worry stays with them throughout their journey,” says Audrey Guth, Nanny Angel Network founder and two-time cancer survivor. “From diagnosis to treatment, recovery and in some cases bereavement, our specially trained volunteers deliver personalized programs that allow parents to focus on their health while their children engage in activities that teach them to cope and thrive during this incredibly difficult time.”

NAN was founded on the belief that every parent with cancer should never have to choose between their own care and the care of their children. Children experiencing a parent diagnosed with cancer are at risk of developing lifelong social and emotional challenges if they are not given the opportunity to share their feelings in a safe and nurturing way. NAN programs are rooted in Child Life, completely free of charge, and designed to teach children how to cope with the stress of this life-changing experience. A community of specially trained volunteers provides support in the family’s home, where children feel the safest. Volunteer Angels uplift and guide each family through their cancer journey to help ease the many burdens felt during this time.

“Having the support from our Nanny Angel meant my kids were able to continue to have fun and play, so when they look back at the time when I was undergoing treatment and recovering their memories are happy ones,” says Tessa, a local Hamilton NAN mom. “I keep thinking about what my life was like this time last year, and how my whole family could not have gotten through it without the unconditional love and support our Nanny Angel provided. She allowed my kids to just be kids while I healed, both physically and emotionally.”

“We are proud to support the Nanny Angel Network as they expand and bring their services to families living with cancer across the Hamilton region,” said Brian Bentz, President and CEO, Alectra Inc. “Alectra is committed to supporting the Hamilton community and believes that families should have access to cancer support services that aid them during their journey.”
