Job description

This position provides Child Life support to parents and their children experiencing a cancer journey, leads Child Life inspired training and support of volunteers, and networking and advocacy with referral sources in the Hamilton Area. 

Nanny Angel Network (NAN) is the only charity of its kind globally which provides Child Life inspired, free, specialized in-home relief childcare for families experiencing cancer. NAN’s mission is  to lessen the impact of cancer on families across the GTA,Kingston and Hamilton areas through in-home and virtual programming and support.

This individual will act as an advocate on Nanny Angel’s behalf in the community, will conduct assessments and provide one on one counselling for parents and children in our programs and will protect the viability of the organization by ensuring service excellence. Initially, this position will be split between the Toronto office and Hamilton.  With the anticipated growth of the Hamilton program we anticipate it will become a full time position in the Hamilton region by August, 2022.

Who understands the impact a community based program has on the long-term psycho-social development of children experiencing trauma.

Accountability Roles

  • Responsible to deliver the NAN Program for Children in Hamilton and area.
  • Responsible for supporting the volunteers in delivering the NAN Program for Children
  • Responsible for creating new content, coping kits, programs to enhance the family experience.In collaboration with NAN’s GTA team, implement training programs.
  • May act as a supervisor mentoring students from the medical and educational fields.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned that support the mission of Nanny Angel Network

Responsibilities: Key Deliverables

  • Assessing eligibility of applicant families to NAN in-home, virtual and meal support programs
  • Match eligible families to available NAN volunteers
  • Review with the family NAN’s service agreement
  • Attends first visits and supports the graduation process
  • Conducts safety assessment of the home
  • Perform scoping assessment of children
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, assessment and administration of educational and therapeutic play based programs for children in our network.
  • Develop care plans for volunteers supporting in-home that promote and maintain normalcy, play opportunities and coping tools
  • Nurture a sustainable family referral network with collaboration from nurse navigators, social workers, teachers and community leaders
  • Coordinates and books all child life specialist visits
  • Maintains NAN database with accuracy for clients
  • Records all contacts and correspondence with active families and referral sources

Qualifications

  • Certified Child Life Specialist.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Child Life.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Solid communication and customer service skills
  • Able to make decisive judgements and take appropriate actions in a highly interactive, high paced team environment
  • Experience with client management systems, client Tracking preferred
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Vulnerable sector police clearance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate office equipment and personal computer
  • May require extended periods of sitting and frequent standing.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

Job description

Provide direct supervision over program team in supporting mothers and their children throughout the cancer journey and to develop, implement, evaluate and innovate program activities and plans to standardize and expand Nanny Angel Network service delivery for families.

Responsibilities: Key Deliverables

  • Plan, direct and manage the implementation of program activities with focus on program standardization
  • Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the program budget
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of program processes, procedures and programs
  • Drive program improvement; assist transition to new CRM, implement use of new program manuals, enhance LMS usage
  • Recruit, screen, train and match volunteers to ensure the viability of the network
  • Oversee creation and implementation of program tools needed to innovate program delivery
  • Drive program expansion into new geographical locations; Hamilton and Barrie in 2022
  • Lead advisory committee meetings for clients and volunteers
  • Provide program reports and monitor KPI performance
  • Define yearly program goals in consultation with management team
  • Participate in community engagement by conducting lunch and learns, seminars, presentations and media interviews with new stakeholders
  • Find and foster new strategic partnerships to further program goals
  • Contribute content for blogs, newsletters, social media, fundraising reports and grant proposals
  • Participate in weekly program and management meetings
  • Develop funding relationships with Hamilton businesses, individuals and foundations.
  • Participate in fundraising and friendraising events
  • Manage and direct the work of the Hamilton program team; provide yearly performance review, onboard and orient new staff,  provide guidance, mentorship and advice in problem solving
  • Supervise student placements

The individual in this position enjoys working with children and their families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, has excellent verbal and written communications skills, is able to manage a variety of competing priorities, is creative and can think out of the box, can adapt to a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment, can manage the stress that comes with working with families dealing with life threatening illness, understands the complexities around working with volunteers, has access to a vehicle.

  • Must have a vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance
