Toronto, Ontario – March 28, 2014 – NANNY ANGEL NETWORK is proud to announce that its founder and executive director, Audrey Guth has been named an official CNN Hero for her ongoing work providing free relief childcare to mothers with cancer. Now in its eighth year, CNN Heroes is a global, year-long initiative that honours everyday people for their selfless, creative efforts to help others.
Audrey Guth founded the Nanny Angel Network in 2008 to provide free, in-home childcare relief to mothers undergoing cancer treatment in Toronto and the surrounding area. The trained volunteer Nannies care for children 12 years and under and provide timely, compassionate support to families throughout treatment, recovery, palliative care and bereavement. Nanny Angel Network envisions a world where every mother with cancer receives the care she needs for her children so that she doesn’t feel alone during cancer treatment and she can care for herself, rest and recover from her treatment. The network offers Nanny Angels, who are professional, experienced childcare providers who volunteer their time so that mothers with cancer know their children are well cared for while they go to appointments, get some much needed rest or simply have time for themselves.
Each week, a CNN Hero is profiled on the global networks of CNN and CNN.com. The 2014 Top 10 CNN Heroes will be announced this fall. From the Top 10, viewers select the CNN Hero of the Year via online voting. The CNN Hero of the Year will be revealed during the “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” this fall, hosted by Anderson Cooper. Each of the top 10 receives $25,000. The Hero of the Year receives an additional $100,000.

The Nanny Angel Network is the first and only registered charity of its kind in North America to provide free in-home childcare relief to women undergoing cancer treatment. Launched in 2008, Nanny Angels has had a real halo effect – to date they’ve helped over 350 families in the Greater Toronto Area with much-needed childcare for over 600 children, providing more than 4500 hours of services through their network of fully-trained, professional nanny volunteers.
In 2013, the increasing demand for services led to the “Angels Spread Their Wings” initiative, a long-term fundraising effort to provide comprehensive support for moms in the Greater Toronto Area and to also expand the network’s reach to other Canadian communities. To celebrate Mother’s Day, NANNY ANGEL NETWORK will follow up the tremendous success of their casino night in 2012 with their fundraising event “Return of Lady Luck” on May 8, 2014, from 7:00 PM to midnight at The Warehouse, Downsview Park, Toronto and Casinor.com event in Norway.

Audrey Guth is a breast cancer survivor, mother of four and the president of Diamond Personnel, a nanny placement agency. After meeting other moms who were struggling to find childcare while they went to treatment sessions, doctors’ appointments and tried to get the rest they needed, she decided that there was a significant gap between health care and social services that simply wasn’t being met. So she decided to find a solution herself, and the result is the Nanny Angel Network, which has been providing free in-home childcare support since 2008 for mothers who have cancer. Audrey is currently the organization’s volunteer Executive Director and Board Chair. Diamond Personnel is a major supporter of the Nanny Angel Network.
About The Nanny Angel Network:
The Nanny Angel Network is a registered charity and the only organization of its kind in North America to provide free in-home childcare support for mothers who have been diagnosed with cancer, for those requiring palliative care and for families requiring additional relief during the bereavement period. For up to five hours per week, Nanny Angels volunteer their time and provide mothers with the security that their children are being well looked after, while they get some much needed rest, go to appointments, or simply have time for themselves. To qualify, mothers must be currently in cancer treatment, or in the early stages of recovery, with a child under the age of 12.
The Nanny Angel Network was founded in 2008 by Audrey Guth, President and CEO of Diamond Personnel, a nanny placement agency. It was originally created to provide free volunteer professional childcare to mothers diagnosed with breast cancer, with initial funding provided generously by Rethink Breast Cancer. In 2011, due to tremendous demand, the network expanded its services to include moms with any type of cancer living in the Greater Toronto area, with initial long-term funding provided by Diamond Personnel and Nanny Angel’s fundraising initiatives. The ever-increasing demand from families needing help has strengthened the organization’s determination to expand its reach to provide full cancer relief nanny care services across the rest of the country.
