Each Nanny Angel is fully vetted and has experience working with children.
Nanny Angels lessen the burden for families facing cancer, and help kids cope with their mother’s illness. Each of these caring, capable, giving individuals is a volunteer – their reward is making a difference in the lives of families like yours.
What does a Nanny Angel do?
Nanny Angels are volunteers who provide specialized in-home childcare and deliver the Nanny Angel Network Program for Children. While we would love to offer full-time care, we only have the resources to provide a relief service.
Ensuring the safety of your children is our number one priority. All Nanny Angels are rigorously screened and selected specifically to meet each family’s unique needs. They have a minimum of one year of experience working with children, like teaching, nursing, early childhood education or social work. All Nanny Angels have current CPR and first aid certification, specialized training to support families living with cancer and a valid vulnerable sector police screening.
A Nanny Angel visits their NAN family four hours per week to create a sense of normalcy and bring fun into the child’s life. This new friend builds a wonderful relationship with your family where your children feel engaged and happy and can do all the physical activities that mom may not be able to do with them anymore. Nanny Angels are a trusted adult that can also facilitate difficult conversations about their mother’s illness in an open, caring environment.
Nanny Angels offer educational, creative and fun experiences for the children in their care. They will arrive at your home with an activity bag filled with resources, books, arts and crafts and more, and keep kids safe and engaged while having fun. These weekly visits give mothers time to rest, attend medical appointments or just take the time they need to care for themselves.
The Nanny Angel Network Program for Children is specially designed and supervised by our Certified Child Life Specialist, a pediatric health care professional who helps children cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness and disability. The Nanny Angel Network Program for Children helps children cope with the fear and anxiety that stems from their mother’s illness. We provide our NAN children with age appropriate tools to manage their grief and anxiety. The coping skills our Nanny Angels help to teach the kids in their care will help them become stronger and more resilient adults in the future.
Our matching process is the magic of NAN. Based on 30 years of nanny agency experience, we take great care and consideration when matching your family with a dedicated Nanny Angel volunteer. We carefully review all Nanny Angels and select a match based on personality, experience and geography. We facilitate your first visit with your volunteer and our Certified Child Life Specialist will be there to support the transition and provide guidance for the volunteer and the family on how best to support your children through your new relationship together. We do our best to ensure the same volunteer will provide care for your children throughout your cancer journey to maintain consistency.
